南宋中期的著名军事理论家华岳,针对当时宋军抵御匈奴马军所遇到的困难,明确提出要根据作战需要改进和创造新的武器装备,制作装备应根据运用兵种和使用者的具体情况而定,要把武器装备的质量放在重要位置,武器装备的配备必须根据兵士的情况不断调整,坚持"因技以求材,因材以制用"等重要思想,对于今天加强武器装备建设仍具有十分重要的启示意义。

Hua Yue,a famous military theoretician in the middle of the Southern Song Dynasty,to solve out the troubles Song Army was facing during resisting against the cavalry of Huns,expressly brought that the new weapons and equipments should be developed and improved according to demand of operation;depending on the arms and users,the quality of weapons and equipments should be put on the priority;the configuration of weapons and equipment musts be adjusted according to conditions of soldiers constantly;and the important thoughts such as ＂seeking for materials for purpose and determining purpose according to characteristics of materials＂.They are still enlightening to enhance today＇s construction of weapons and equipments.
