In her works,Toni Morrison employs the spirit of tragedy of western culture.The dual personality and twisted maternal love of the mothers show not only the miserable situations of black women but the spirit of tragedy hidden in the strive for existence,which comes from the characters’ struggle and cruel oppression in reality that are so intense that only the extreme way——destructing something valuable can reflect the cruel aesthetic value of the spirit of tragedy.
