Zhang Wei＇s novel The Ancient Vessel represents Li Wa Town＇s 40-year history from land reform to economic reform and opening-up by drawing on the sense of hardship and repentance in Russian literature. In the context of novels without any repentance sense in the new era,this novel has presented the first repentant character—Sui Baopu. Moreover,the pursuit of the historical truth,the reflection on the individual survival circumstance,the probe into the repentance sense and the efforts of seeking salvation in the novel is highly inspiring for novel writing at present.
