Love Is a Fallacy is one of the masterpieces by Max Shulman, a well-known American humorist. The paper conducts a detailed analysis of the dialogues between two main character ＂ Dobie＂ and ＂ Polly＂ in the novel from the perspective of register theory in Systemic and Functional Linguistics and finds that the writer＇s skillful application of narrative technique of deviation of register has great ironical stylistic presentation in the construction of literary text.
