出版业是宋代文化的重要组成部分,出版业的繁荣,促成了文化的兴盛。宋代是中国雕版印刷业的黄金时代,形成了官刻、私刻、坊刻三大出版系统,奠定了此后中国古代社会出版的基本模式。官刻、私刻、坊刻之间相互融合、相互促进,构建出宋代出版的整体格局。书籍发行与贸易也十分发达,不仅在国内销售,也发行到辽、金、西夏,甚至日本、高丽等国。宋朝出版业的繁荣发展,与雕版印刷术的普及、政府"右文崇儒"政策的实行、兴学运动的开展、士大夫主体意识的觉醒、手工业经济的发达是分不开的。在这一背景下,中原文化广为传播,版权意识初步形成。
