Extravascular lung water and pulmonary vascular permeability index have certain clinical values for the diagnosis, treatment and prognosis of critically ill patients. Their application is becoming valued more and more as an important monitoring index of pulmonary pathophysiology. We review the research progress on monitoring and application of extravascular lung water and pulmonary vascular permeability index in this paper.
