The takeover battle for Vanke reached a peak in 2015 as the company found itself in a 'love' triangle with a group led by real estate developer the Baoneng Group,Anbang Insurance and Vanke Chairman Wang-Shi.Leading up to this battle,Baoneng and two other companies slowly worked through second-tier markets to build up a 22 percent stake in Vanke.With pressure rising,on December 17 th,Wang Shi criticized this group at an executive meeting,the transcript of which was soon passed around on social media.Then on December 23 rd,the battle took another turn as Vanke and Anbang,which originally many believed to be working with Baoneng,issued separate statements that they would be allying together.This battle for control of one of China's biggest real estate developers has led many to question whether the system of public shareholders,in which ownership of a company automatically went to the highest bidder,was suitable for China.
