Embodiment is a fundamental fact of human existence, but Chinese and Western cultures provide contrary explanations for the same fact. Thus, what’s decisive is not the facts observed, but the ways different peoples experience their life. The paper aims to propose that it is the ontologically different status of body that makes different cultures proceed in different directions. Only from this perspective can we appreciate what the difference between Chinese and Western views of body really means.
