摘要
地方性和悲情是华兹华斯诗歌创作的两个突出特点。如何理解地方与悲情的关系?用地方的视角观照悲情,能否对悲情的浑厚深沉达成一层新的理解?又或用悲情的视角观照地方,能否彰显华氏有关地方的态度的复杂和微妙?本文以《毁塌的茅舍》为文本焦点,以谢莫斯·希内,爱德华·托马斯,乔纳森·贝特等三人有关地方的论述为理论框架,借玛格丽特与地方的关系和商贩与地方的关系两个切入点,围绕玛格丽特的悲剧探讨地方与悲情。主要内容包括三部分,可由三个纲领性的问题分别概括:玛格丽特为何非如此不可,陷在悲剧里欲拔不能?而老商贩为何可以超越悲剧的抑郁绝望,并从中获取智慧,抚慰和教导他人?他的哲理是什么?
Locality and sadness are two of Wordsoworthian poetry’s distinct features,and it is intriguing to further explore the profundity of both through their interaction.Based on"The Ruined Cottage"and relevant discussions from Seamus Heaney,Edward Thomas and Jonathan Bate,this article ventures an investigation into locality and sadness by inspecting both Margaret’s and the old Armytage’s affiliation to the place.The article includes three parts,which can be outlined by three predominant questions:why Margaret cannot help being immersed in her own sadness? Why the old Armytage can,by contrast,overcome the gloom of sadness wherein he acquires wisdom,and manage to help others out? What is his philosophy?
