Mei Baojiu is the ninth, and youngest, son of Mei Lanthng （1894-1961）, one of the most famous Peking opera artists in modern history, and the person known for his qingyi performances. Qingyi is a type of dan role （the general name for the female roles） in Chinese opera. Mei Baojiu is a contemporary Peking opera artist, and the only of Mei Lanfang＇s children who performs the dan role.
