Conflict and Combination of the Elite and the Public Culture in the Urban Life of the Modern Northeast China

在近代东北城市生活中,不仅包含着传统与现代,还隐匿着精英文化与大众文化,且二者一直在相互冲突、碰撞。然而她们并不是相互抵触,水火不容,随着时代的发展和社会的进步,她们在相互渗透,日趋融合,渐渐发展成为一种独具特色的文化——近代东北城市文化。然而,由于二者之间的界限十分模糊,且经常发生变化,使得对她们的定量十分困难。

In the modern Northeast China the urban life not only included the tradition and the modern, but also concealed the elite culture and the public culture, and they had been in conflict with each other. However, they were not incompatible like fire and water. On the contrary with the development of the time and the progress of the society, they were infiltrating each other and becoming more and more integrated, gradually became a kind of unique culture——the urban culture in the modern Northeast China. However, because the boundary line between the two was very vague and often changed, it made the quantification of them very difficult.
