《资治通鉴》(三国部分 )是继《三国志》和裴松之注后又一座三国史的里程碑 ,是三国题材由历史到小说漫长演化史中承前启后的关键一环。它对上融陈寿原著与裴注于一体 ,兼采其长而出之以编年 ,对下影响到“说三分”与《三国志演义》的创作。在思维方式、材料整合、叙事艺术、语言风格以及文化观念等史传与小说相通方面《资治通鉴》对罗贯中创作《三国志演义》也产生了诸多影响 ,在三国题材演化史上具有突出地位与独特作用。
