禅录俗语词“风后先生”解读

Research on the Idiom＂Feng Hou Xian Sheng＂ （风后先生） in Zen Literature

前人对禅录俗语词“风（封）后先生”的解释欠妥当。禅籍“风后”一词与“风前”相对。“风”与“锋”通用,又写作“封”。“锋”指尖锐或犀利的言辞,“锋（风）前”即言说之前,禅籍特指“第一机”“第一义”或“第一句”,这是超越一切言句知解的宗门妙语,一旦形之于语言文字,就是“风后”,即“第二机”“第二义”或“第二句”。“风后先生”指称用言辞说略等方便法门接引中下根机的禅师。

Previous interpretation of Zen idiom ＂Feng Hou Xian Sheng＂ （风后先生） is not appropriate. In Zen Literature, the meaning of ＂Feng Hou＂（风后）and ＂Feng Qian＂ （风前） is opposite. The two words ＂Feng＂ （风） and ＂Feng＂ （锋） are in common use. And ＂Feng＂（风）could also be written as ＂Feng＂ （封）. ＂Feng＂ （锋） has the meaning of profound words ＂＇Feng Qian＂ （锋 前）means saying before. In Zen literature it especially means the first sentence of Zen Literature. It is beyond all language which can＇t be expressed. Once expressed in words, that is ＂Feng Hou＂ （风后）, the second sentence of Zen Literature. In Zen Literature, the idiom ＂Feng Hou Xian Sheng＂ （风后先生） could be used to name the Zen monk who utilize the preaching words to enlighten their disciples as these disciples can＇ t get the Zen point.
