摘要
君子一词是中国儒家文化的重要概念之一,它在英译过程中译介为多种形式。本文以儒家经典《论语》为例,选取学界普遍流行的理雅各和韦利的翻译版本,结合儒家文化中君子概念本身包含的道德和政治双重意蕴,分析对比英译君子概念的异同。笔者认为,无论从词源、翻译还是从文化角度考察,理雅各的翻译the superior更能够体现儒家君子文化的内涵。
The word Junzi is one of the important concepts in Chinese Confucian culture. It has wide variety of forms in English translation. This paper selects the popular translated versions by James Legge and Arthur Waley,taking The Analects for example,to analyze the English translation of Junzi concept. Combining the implication of Confucian moral with the political culture in Junzi,the author believes that the translation by James Legge is better from the etymological and cultural perspective,and makes the corresponding analysis.
