Comparative Analysis on the Euphemisms in English and Chinese Culture

语言是文化的重要组成部分,委婉语作为语言中的特殊构成,既是一种语言现象,更是一种文化现象,二者密不可分。英汉两种语言语形不尽相同,虽然委婉语的特点也有很多相似性,但由于文化价值取向的不同,它们的应用场合和内涵仍存在差异。

Language is an indispensable part of a culture, euphemism, as a special composition of language, is a language phenomenon as well as a cultural phenomenon. Although English and Chinese are topographically different, they still share some similarities. Because of the differenees in their cultural value orientation, English and Chinese euphemisms have their respective significance and adopting occasions. Revealing the various cultural characteristics of euphemisms, this essay attempts to compare and analyze English and Chinese euphemisms from the cultural perspective in order that we can adjust interpersonal relationship better and achieve harmonious cross-cultural communication.
