PhD. program is an important way to promote the discipline development of information studies and train advanced professional talents. Basic theories and methods of information studies are major components of the coursework of PhD. program of in- formation studies. These kinds of courses are often regarded as compulsory courses for PhD candidates of information studies. Using Doctoral Seminar in Information Studies （DSIS） of School of Information Studies of University of Wisconsin Milwaukee （UWM） as a ease, this paper detailed analyzes and summarizes the teaching method, course content, assessment requirements and character- istics. The coursework system and teaching method of DSIS are valuable for improving PHD program in China.
