In his translation of "Beowulf", Seamus Heaney denies the "metaphoric" as- pects of translation, which immobilizes the meaning of the source text, and commits to ex- ploring the "metonymic" aspects in the historical context. His work is based on the particu- lar historical experiences and the complex relationship between the United Kingdom and Ireland. Through the exploration of marginality in "Beowulf", Heaney has gone beyond the connotations of the symbiotic system of Anglo-Irish literature which his early works re- ferred to. Through the discovery of otherness, which is unconsciously excluded when using the metaphoric strategy, he decanonizes and deinstitutionalizes English Literature from its very beginning, restoring the rich natural features of early text.
