《红楼梦》翻译中语义和文体信息的对等传递

The Semantic and Stylistic Information Equivalence in Translations of Hong Lou Meng

美国翻译理论家Nida和Larson各自提出了翻译中的信息传递模式,Nida模式只重视表层结构研究,而Larson模式只重视深层结构研究,如何结合两者优点实现源语和译语在语义和文体信息上的对等传递值得探讨。译者作为语义和文体信息传递者,翻译中经常面临两种策略选择:归化和异化。通过从语言和文化层面对中国古典名著《红楼梦》两个英译本(杨宪益译本和霍克斯译本)进行比较研究,论证异化与归化看似互相矛盾,实则相互补充的辩证关系。异化和归化各具特点,在实现语义和文体信息对等传递中都有其存在价值。

Both Eugene A. Nida and Mildred L. Larson have suggested their information transmission modes respectively; Nida emphasizes the surface structure while Larson focuses on the deep structure. It might be worthwhile to combine the merits of the two modes with an aim to acquiring the semantic and stylistic equivalence between the SL and the TL. Translators, transmitters of equivalent semantic and stylistic information, are often confronted with the difficult choice between the two translation strategies, i. e. domestication and foreignization. This thesis tries to make a comparison at linguistic and cultural level, between the two English versions of Hong Lou Meng translated by Yang Xianyi and David Hawkes respectively. It is advisably concluded that domestication and foreignization are not in absolute contradiction, but are supplementary to each other. They have their respective features and values in guaranteeing semantic and stylistic equivalence.
