摘要
元代江浙释教总统沙啰巴的名字此前被考定为藏语shes-rab dpal(慧吉祥)的译音,事实上这很可能是个来自蒙古语的转译词。沙啰巴另外两个迄今未获解读的名字也都与"慧"有关:其中"积宁"音译自12世纪前后的汉语河西方言,源出梵文的jā(慧),"观照"则是汉语,暗指"般若"(慧)。在不同的场合使用不同语言的同义词来称名,这是少数民族古已有之的习惯。
Shaluoba, the Genaral Supervisor of Buddhism in Jiangsu and Zhejing District of Yuan Dynas- ty,whose name was previously identified as a transcription from the Tibetan word shes-rab dpal (wisdom and auspice),but actually it might be a re-transcription from a Mongolian loan word. Other two undeci- phered names of Shaluoba both related to "wisdom" :one of them,Ji-ning,was transcribed from a Sanskrit word j? d (wisdom) in the Northwest Chinese Dialect around 12th century, while the other,Guanzhao,is a Chinese word suggesting Boruo (wisdom). It proves to be a traditional custom in Chinese minorities that synonyms from different languages were used for the same name in different occasions respectively.
