The core issue of contemporary disputes over Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is the scientificity of Dao, Qi, Yinyang and Five Elements. By systematically studying the origin and development of Dao, Qi, Yinyang and Five Elements and analyzing what they originally refer to, this paper revealed the original connotations of these theories. Dao referred to the laws of the birth of the universe and Qi was the basic concept of substance of the universe. Yinyang was related to the movement of the sun and the moon and the shifting of climate. Five Elements was a concept of seasons. These theories interpreting the ancient astronomical laws and climatology have a sound basis of ancient science and their original connotations are very significant for the modern development of TCM.
