Study on Relation Between Types of Toponyms of Townships and Geographical Environment in Guangdong Province

研究了广东省的乡镇地名与地理环境,采用数理统计法、历史文献法、地图法、GIS等较为科学严谨的方法归类分析了其地名的情况,由研究可知:这些地名是地形、水文、方位、动植物、寓意、经济和建筑等多方面的原因形成的。指出了地名研究以语言符号为载体,将地名按科学方法归类为自然类和人文类两大类,再具体细分以便研究地名空间分异规律。

The types of toponyms of townships in Guangdong province are various, which have a close and complicated relationship with geographical environment. They have been influenced by a number of factors together in a long time. To some extent, the toponyms of townships express the cultural deposit of a region. In the meantime, toponyrns of townships have significance in physical geography and human geograiphy,which record and bear many aspects of geographical entity around the social people in a particular space,including the change of history,the change of geographic conditions,local customs and the desire of the people, etc. In order to study the toponyms of townships in Guangdong province and geographical environment, the article uses scientific and rigorous methods, including mathematical statistics method,the historical documents method, mapping method and GIS and so on, Through the analysis, the article finds out that the toponyms of townships are mainly affected by many reasons which include the geography,hydrolo- gy, orientation, flora and fauna, implication, economic development and architecture. Taking language signs as carrier, the study divides the toponyms of townships into natural class and humanities class according to the geographical sci- entific methods Then the article classifies them more specifically in order to analyze the spatial differentiation regula- tions of toponyms of townships.
