《世说新语》又名《世语》,是研究魏晋名士的极好史料,它记载了魏晋士人的种种活动,其逸闻轶事表现了当时士人阶层的生活追求,进而反映了魏晋时代的社会风尚,如高尚节操、远大志向、自然率真、从容洒脱等精神面貌,从中也可以看出当时士人所推崇的社会观。

A New Account of the Tales of the World, namely Tales of the World, is considered to be the best reference book, which recorded varieties of people＇s activities of Wei-Jin. The various anecdotes in it showes the scholar＇s living pursuit and preferences of the time. These anecdotes further reflect the social customs, such as their moral principle, ambitions pursuits, faithfulness and unrestrained personality, which witnesses their views of society praised highly by the scholars from the spirits.
