Stephen Owen＇s study and interpretation of Chinese literary theory has a distinct historicized and contextualized feature. He stresses that the study of Chinese literary theory should be based on individual texts, centering on the production, dissemination and effect of texts synchronically, with an eye to presenting the production mechanism and practices of the discourses, categories, theories, and thought of Chinese literary criticism. This ＂living thought＂ and its way of interpretation can be considered ＂China as the method＂.
