Objective To investigate the serum procalcitonin (PCT) in the clinical value of disease infection in children. Methods 201 cases of pediatric patients in collection, including bacterial infection group 76 cases, non bacterial infection group 85 cases, non infection group with 40 cases from June 2013 to December 2013. The serum procalcitonin (PCT), C reactive protein (CRP) levels were measured, and the results were com- pared. Results PCT=0.5ng/ml, CRP =5.2mg/L is positive, the bacterial infection group the positive rate of PCT was 69.74%, non bacterial infection group, the positive rate of PCT was 14.11%, non infection group positive rate of PCT was 10%, the bacterial infection group and non bacterial infection group, non infected group comparison has the remarkable difference (P 〈 0.01); and virus infection group and non infection group were no difference (P 〉 0.05). Bacterial infection group, the positive rate of CRP was 73.68%, non bacterial infection group, the positive rate of CRP was 47.56%, non infection group positive rate of CRP was 29.73%, compared with PCT, non bacterial infection group positive rate of CRP was higher than that of the positive rate of PCT (P 〈 0.01); bacterial infection group, non bacterial infection positive rate between two groups were no difference (P 〉 0.05). Conclusion PCT can be used as a children's infectious diseases differential di- agnosis and early detection of indicators, to guide the clinical medication, control clinical overuse of antibiotics.
