This paper analyzes the periodization, time, cultural and tomb's characteristic of the Dongwanzaibei site of the Mawan Island. Here the author argues that the remains of Phase Ⅰ and Phase Ⅱ, which flourished between middle-to-late Shang Dynasty, should be re-divided into two periods. The tombs include three groups, and the burial goods of each group are different from one other, probably owing to their different means of livelihood. Although the tombs do not reflect individuals of high social status, the burial goods are comparatively distinct, indicating that the polarization between the rich and the poor had emerged.
