Lexicology of Modern and Middle Ancient Chinese is a work about the well-rounded summary of the study on the middle and modern ancient Chinese in recent years. The works has a detailed content analysis,abundance of linguistic data and examples,and a brief account of the research situation of them. It offers a theoretical discussion of the way that the word was formed and the methods that the word meaning was interpretted,furthermore,an introduction to the types of language sources and the methods of identifying them. The works not only collects the interpretation of words and expressions,but also illustrates new words and new meanings with supplementing and discriminating predecessors＇ discussions. The book pays great attention to the vernacular Chinese,special Buddhist scriptures and Dunhuang manuscripts. Certainly,there are a few shortcomings in the work.
