TCM Translation History and TCM Term Translation

文章以中外文化交流为背景,简略回顾了中医翻译的历史进程,并对当前汉英综合性词典中中医词条的译文进行了评述,指出了存在的问题,主要集中在对中医词条的曲解、望文生义、译文混乱、定义错误、过多的解释性翻译和不规范翻译等方面。作者认为,直译、意译、音译、借用、约定俗成等原则仍然是中医翻译的指导原则。

Based on the background of sino-foreign cultural exchange, we briefly reviewed the TCM translation history and made comments on some problems in English translation of TCM terms, i.e. misinterpretation, taking words too literary, language confusion and wrong definition, etc.. We think that the principles of literal translation, free translation, transliteration, borrowing, and convention are still the guiding principle of TCM translation.
