Neuropeptide kisspeptins (coded by KISS1 gene) and their receptors, KISS1R [ also known as G protein-coupled receptors 54 (GPR54) ] are not only expressed in the discrete brain tissues, but also expressed in the peripheral tissues, such as fat, liver, pancreas, etc. Recent studies have indicated that glucagon stimulates the liver to produce neuropeptide kisspeptins via the cAMP-protein kinase A-cAMP-response element binding protein pathway, and different concentrations of kisspeptins act on GPR54 through islet-1 ( ISL-1 ) and have differernt effects on the secretion of insulin. Meanwhile, the damage of the kisspeptins signal can also lead to obesity. Neuropeptide kisspeptins can affect the secretion of insulin, it is suggested relationships among the axis of reproductive system, the secretion of insulin and the liver, and these findings are beneficial to further understand the regulatory mechanism of insulin secretion.
