汪中善骂考

On the Scolding Story of Wang Zhong

汪中可以说是清代中期最具争议的学人。他喜好骂人,又每遭人骂。当他去世后,诸家为他作墓铭行状,使他好骂人的轶事流传纷纷。而他的儿子汪喜孙(字孟慈,1786-1848)则屡屡辨言诸家记载失实,极力想为其父洗雪掉这种不讨人喜欢的形象。这样一来,汪中骂人与被骂的实情究竟如何?也就成了清代学术思想史研究者常常提及的话头。国家清史编纂委员会整理出版了《新编汪中集》,搜集有关汪中的材料比较齐备,借助此书,再配合其他相关文献,围绕汪中骂人与被骂的种种传说的迷雾,或可稍稍揭开一二层。

Wang Zhong is a famous scholar for his eccentric character in the middle of the Qing dynasty. It is said that he likes scolding others and, so, always be scolded by others. After his death, his biographies written by some of other scholars helped the spread of his foible of scolding. Wang Xisun, the son of Wang Zhong, who pointed out that the stories in those biographies were not real. He made every effort to right the rumors around his father. Now, with help from Xinbian Wang Zhong Ji published by National Codification committee of Qing history, we may uncover the mystery of Wang Zhong- story of scolding.
