Quotation from Buddhist Classics in Chinese translation is prevalent in Malaysian-Chinese prose. Generally speak- ing, quotation from Buddhist prose is meant for argument, in order to give force to one's exposition of Buddhist tenets or strengthen one' s views. Writers, apart from transplanting knowledge, also wax lyrical by quoting from the Buddhist classics, some of them by expressing their different sentiments and views about passage of time and the world through the classics. This paper will sort out views of time and space in humanism and Buddhism before analyzing and expounding the methods with which groups of writers quote from Chinese-translated Buddhist Classics and the results achieved apart from explicating the view of time and space as exhibited in Malaysian-Chinese Buddhist prose by the way writers quote and employ the quotations, in order to explore the cultural significance behind.
