This paper makes a thorough analysis of "ghost festivals" in China and America from their origins, development histories and customs. Meanwhile, the differences between Chinese and American cultural values reflected in "ghost festivals" are explored based on Hofstede' s Cultural Dimensions Theory and Kluckhohn & Strodtbeck' s Values Orientation Theory, which is beneficial to overcoming potential communication barriers caused by the different cultural values and promoting mutual understanding and communication be- tween Chinese and Americans.
