刘向的《列女传》与薄伽丘的《名女》分别是东西方文化史第一部女性合传。由于传统社会对女性性别角色定位的相似性,两书中塑造的女性在德行、言辞、容貌、生活技能方面有其相同之处。但由于社会性质、文化传统和时代背景的差异,这些女性在性格复杂性、人格独立性和对财富的态度上颇有不同。这体现了不同文化环境对中西方女性的影响,这种文化上的影响一直延续至今。

Liu Xiang＇ s Biography of Women and Boccaccio＇ s Female are the first female collective Biography in eastern and western cultural history. Due to the similarity of female gender and role orientation in the traditional society, these women have similarities in virtue, expression, appearance and life skills. However, because of the difference of social nature, cultural traditions and historical background, these female images are different in their complexity of character, independence and attitudes towards wealth. This reflects the influence of different cultures on the eastern and western women, and this cultural influence continues today.
