The lecture of Emerson entitled The American Scholar is the announcement of American culture, which teaches scholars how to keep spiritual independence and perfectness from three aspects, ie. nature, books and action, and explores how to realize social responsibility by ＂man thinking＂. Emerson＇ s knowledge of the rela- tionship between scholar and culture can inspire our reflection on the problem which Chinese contemporary scholars are faced with.
