There is a profound tradition of integrating land and water in the Netherlands. The water management in low lands and the landscape homology of the polder and city are parts of the foundations of the Dutch landscape design. However, those fine traditions are challenged due to the changes of the ecological environment and urbanization in the new era. In the paper, four representative works of him and his H+N+S office are introduced and analyzed, together with some important biographical notes on contemporary Dutch landscape architect Dirk Sijmons and analysis of his design philosophies, which are taking water resources as the basis and focusing on the integration of urban and rural area and the "casco approach", and it helps to understand the Dutch landscape design from one side. In the meanwhile, it might provide references to the large number of water-themed landscape design in China.
