Analysis on Phenomenon of Betrothal Gifts Valued——in Marriage in Huaihe Area

婚姻重财现象在近代淮河流域具有广泛性,主要表现在:该地区的人们对财礼的观念发生了变化,对财礼的价码要求不断提高,以及财礼种类的多样化等方面。这一现象的形成既是几千年来历史传统的产物,也是时代政治、经济、思想文化共同作用的结果。对此,本文认为,要站在理性的立场,既要看到它给当时社会带来的诸多负面影响,也应当看到它对传统封建婚姻观所造成的一系列冲击。

It is popular that betrothal gifts were regarded as important in marriage in modern Huaihe river basin.This phenomenon was mainly reflected in three aspects,including the changed concepts on betrothal gifts,the continuous increased betrothal gifts and the diversification of betrothal gifts.This was not only caused by the historical tradition but also by the combined effect of politics,economy and culture.Facing this phenomenon,we should insist on viewing it from a rational perspective.We need to consider both the adversely effect brought by it and the impact on feudal marriage.In addition,we must clearly recognize that it would not disappear over time.On the contrary,this is a social problem in modern China which needs to be solved urgently and can never be ignored.
