晚明时事小说的兴盛是中国小说史上值得深入研究的现象。这些时事小说在写作特点上与以往的小说创作有许多相异之处。其中比较明显的就是小说创作上的急就风格。这种急就风格既有优点,又有不足。其优点是快速地反映了社会现实、及时丰富和深化了时事传闻的报道;以同时代人的眼光记叙、评论时事,翔实生动,有充分的说服力;作者感情强烈、富于时代气息。其缺点和不足是作品整体缺乏精雕细刻;部分情节客观性欠缺;由于刊刻草率、校勘不精,出现了较多技术性的错误。

The prosperity of current events novels in late Ming Dynasty deserves deep stud- y. These current events novels are different from previous novels in writing characteristics, among which the relatively obvious is the hurried style that has both advantages and disad- vantages. The advantages are. It immediately reflects the social reality and timely enriches and deepens the reports of current events; viewing from the contemporary perspective, the authors passionately commented on current events in an informative, vivid and fully con- vincing way. The disadvantages are. the works are rough and the artistic levels are not high. During the processing of the events the authors too readily formed judgments which were often prejudiced and could not avoid mistakes. Besides, many technical mistakes ap-peared due to hasty proofreading and publication.
