清末民初"西风东渐"下,南浔儒商望族在对外贸易往来中,潜移默化地受到西方文化理念及生活方式的影响,并且体现和反映在他们的宅第、园林建筑之中,他们将西方的建筑形式、风格及生活方式,巧妙地渗透与融合于南浔建筑,形成独特的南浔建筑装饰风格。

During the period of Late Qing and early Republic of China , It can be said that such ＂the Eastward Transmission of Western Sciences＂ . Nanxun confucian businessman influenced by western culture idea and life style in foreign trade ,which reflected on their house and garden. They took the western architectural form, style and way of life, ably in Nanxun building infiltration and integration, so forming a unique Nanxun architectural style.
