摘要
In the Daur-majority administrative area, there is the Morin Dawa Daur Autonomous Banner of Hulunbeir League in Inner Mongolia and the Asir Daur townships at Tacheng City, Tacheng Prefecture in Xinjiang. Home to a Daur population primarily engaged in agriculture, Tacheng Prefecture is located northwest of Xinjiang, in the Ta'er basin bordering Kazakhstan near the Tarbagatai Mountains. The Daur there number only 2,178 persons, and are only about a fifth of the population of Asir Daur townships. They are reported to be descendants of Ili officers and guards who stayed at Tacheng's Soren Camp when Emperor Qianlong reigned. DNA analysis also reports a genetic tie between Daur and Khitan in the Liao Dynasty.
The Daur nationality, with a total population of 120,000,is one of the least-populous"minzu"in China. Most Daur live in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region and in Heilongjiang Province, and only few are in Xinjiang and Liaoning Province. They have their own language, called Altaic Mongolian, and use the Latin alphabet for their writing, although they are generally proficient in Chinese language and writing nowadays. In
