Nantong in Jiangsu Province is one ofthe 14 coastal port cities designated to opento the outside world. Recent years saw theincreasing importance of the Nantong Har-bour, with its cargo handling capacitymiraculously shooting up from 2.96 milliontonnes in 1980 to 10.19 million tonnes in1985.
