[ Purpose/significance ] This paper aims at providing an overview of the development of information sci- ence in the western world. The overview will not only help researchers to have a quick grasp of the field, but also serve as a reference for spotting new research field. [ Method/process ] It takes papers from JASIST in 2014 for the basic data. Firstly, it establishes a field classification system for information science research. Then, it manually reads through every paper, categorizes them into a sub-class and gives a brief introduction about the paper. [ Resnit/eonelusion ] Information science theory is becoming mature, which has not been focused on by researchers. There is a trend of diversity in the tra- ditional information science field which include information communication and cooperation, informetrics and evaluation, information user, information retrieval, and information management. New media and privacy have become the new hot re- search topics. Meanwhile, information science pays more attention to the cultural facet of information.
