The Research on Ruolu Prison in the Han Dynasty

若卢是汉代少府的属官,以其储藏和冶铸兵器的职能而得名,内设有监狱。作为"诏狱"的若卢狱设于宫禁之内,是中都官狱之一,用以拘押犯罪的官员。若卢诏狱在光武帝时被裁撤,后因司法体系的调整和政治斗争的需要,于汉和帝时恢复诏狱性质,归属廷尉管理,成为东汉唯一明确记载被恢复的中都官诏狱,其复置为后来黄门北寺狱的设立开辟了道路。

As an attached official of Shaofu in the Han Dynasty, Ruolu was named for its function of storing, smelting and casting weapons, with the prison in it. Ruolu prison was an imperial edict prison and one of the officials＇ prisons in capitals, and its role was to jail the criminal officials. Ruolu imperial edict prison was abolished＇ by Emperor Liu Xih, while reset by Emperor Liu Zhao under Tingwei＇s jurisdiction for the reason of the adjustment of judicial system and the needs of political struggle. It is the only reset imperial edict prison in capitals which was explicitly recorded in the Eastern Han Dynasty, whose reset paved the way for the establishment of the prison Huangmen Beisi.
