在现代汉语中,语气副词"其实"意义复杂,用法多样。多功能词"其实"的用法可以从"所谓"与"所指"的关系角度得到解释。"其实"可以用于现实域、认识域和言语行为域。用于现实域时,凸显概念的名不副实与名称的华而不实;用于认识域时,凸显现实的反预期或思想的脱离现实;用于言语行为域时,凸显言语行为的言过其实、言不由衷、言不尽意、反动机,兼有吸引注意、抢夺话语权、提供信源、维护面子的作用。不同使用背景下的"其实"有不同的句法表现。
