The purpose of this study was to explore the correlation between second to fourth digit ratio( 2D∶ 4D) and running economy( RE). Twelve subjects majored in middle and long distance running participated in this research( 6 men, average age20 years old, height( 1. 76 3. 85) m,body weight( 67. 07 0. 02) kg,BMI( 21. 50 1. 18) kg / m^2; 6 women, mean age 20years; height( 1. 68 0. 11) M,weight( 57. 61 7. 11) kg,BMI( 20. 50 1. 74) kg / m^2). The RE was tested by using the MAX-II cardiopulmonary function test system and the 2D∶ 4D was measured by using the Image J software, the relationship between the Pearson correlation analysis of RE and 2D∶ 4D. The results found that the correlation between RE and 2D∶ 4D was significant in the male right hand( p〈 0. 01) and was not significant in the male left hand( p〉 0. 01),and the correlation between RE and 2D∶ 4D was not significant in the female right and left hand( p〈 0. 01),but both male and female showed a positive correlation trend between RE and 2D∶ 4D. These results indicate that the smaller ratio of 2D∶ 4D may accompany by the better RE.
