《嘉莉妹妹》是美国著名自然主义作家德莱赛的第一部小说,也是美国自然主义小说的巅峰作品,描述了美丽、善良的农村女孩嘉莉从社会最底层走上百老汇红舞星宝座的整个过程。本文拟从自然主义的产生出发,重点分析小说《嘉莉妹妹》中体现的遗传和环境因素,试图能够客观、全面地把握自然主义的优势和缺陷,为正确评判人性打下坚实的基础,对现代生活具有重大的现实意义。
＂ Sister Carrie＂ is Theodore Dreiser＇s first novel,which is the pinnacle of works of American naturalistic novels and describes the beautiful and kind rural girl Carrie from the bottom of the society to go the whole process of Red Star dancer on Broadway＇s throne. This paper intends to analyze the genetic and environmental factors in the novel ＂ Sister Carrie＂ and tries to be able to objectively and comprehensively grasp the advantages and shortcomings of the naturalism,to lay a solid foundation for the correct evaluation of human nature.
