摘要
本研究通过英语水平测试、口语能力自评、词汇量测试与英语学习策略问卷调查,对我国不同区域8所重点院校2014级新生的英语能力进行综合调查与分析。研究发现,重点院校新生的英语水平测试成绩均值为58.31(100分满分),口语自评分均值为2.66(5分量表),词汇量均值为4 297词,总体学习策略使用均值为3.01(5分量表),各类策略使用均值在2.67—3.31之间。就男女生差异而言,女生除听力分数略低于男生,写作、阅读、翻译单项分及总分均显著高于男生;女生的词汇量及口语能力自评分略高于男生,但差异不具有显著性;女生各类学习策略的使用频率均显著高于男生。本研究结果能为我国新一轮大学英语教学改革提供实证依据。
This study administers the language proficiency test, self-assessment of oral English competence, vocabulary test and strategy inventory for language learning to investigate the English competence of Chinese university freshmen enrolled in 2014. With the freshmen at 8 national key universities as the subjects, the study reveals that on average the score of language proficiency test is 58.31 (full score 100), self-assessment of oral English competence is 2.66 ( Likert 5 ), vocabulary size is 4297, frequency of overall use of the learning strategies is 3. 01 ( Likert 5 ), and frequency of each strategy ranges from 2.67 to 3.31. As for the gender differences, females' writing, reading, translation and total scores are significantly higher than males', while males' listening score is slightly higher than females'. Females have larger vocabulary size and higher self-assessment of oral English competence than males, yet with no significant differences. Besides, females use each strategy significantly more frequently than males. The study results will provide empirical evidence for the new round of college English teaching reform in China.
