Back to the “Low Level”: Notes on Michael Baxandall’s Non-Narrative Description

本文通过分析美术史家巴克森德尔的几篇关键论著,尝试探讨其美术史写作当中对于视觉分析及＂低层＂描述的重视,并希望藉此对于时下流行的叙事性美术史进行反思。

By way of analyzing several key works by the noted art historian Michael Baxandall, this article aims to reveal his attempt in a non- narrative,＂low-level＂ approach to art history and its significance for redressing the current vogue of telling stories in art history writing.
