Chinese “Qaghans”Appointed by the Turks

东突厥汗国和后突厥汗国时期,反用中原王朝"以夷制夷"之策,对中原王朝推行"以汉制汉"之策,先后在隋唐交替之际和武则天废唐立周期间先后多次册封中原"可汗",如隋唐之交刘武周被东突厥始毕可汗册封为"定杨可汗",梁师都被册封为"大度毗伽可汗",武周时期阎知微被后突厥可汗默啜册封为"南面可汗"。"以汉制汉"策略的推行,表明突厥统治者已精通中原王朝对周边民族的统治之术,通过适合自己的策略操控中原王朝,从中谋求利益最大化。

During the period of Eastern Turk Empire and the Second Turk Empire, the Turk Qaghans sought to turn the tables on the old policy of ＂yiyizhiyi＂, namely using ＂barbarians＂ to control ＂barbarians＂, through the practice that has been called ＂yi Han zhi Han＂ which means ＂using Chinese to control Chinese＂ as well ,they appointed many Chinese Qaghans at the time of Sui-Tang transition and Zhou interregnum, For examples, Shi-bi Qaghan had appointed Liu Wuzhou as ＂Ding Yang Qaghan＂ along with Liang Shidu as ＂Tardu Bilge Qaghan＂ during the Sui-Tang transition, Bayan Cor Qaghan appointed Yan Zhiwei as ＂Nan mian Qaghan＂ at the time of Empress Wu Zetian. The implement of strategy ＂using Chinese to control Chinese＂ indicates the Turkic rulers were versed in the political trickery which Chinese power once actualized to their neighbors. As a result, they control Chinese powers by their own proper strategies which result in making political gains to the maximization for themselves.
