In this dissertation, I try to interpret the profound connotations about female figures in Chinese literature by means of criticizing the original shape in myth, that is to recall more primitive and deeper traditional culture to look for its modern states so as to open up the boundary line between mythical and modern shapes,to find out their agreement and their symbolic interchangeable forms, and to reveal the more significant, deeper and more conclusive meaning in Chinese literature. The original shape of Nüwa embodied the female characteristics of creation and sacrifice. In ancient times, such characteristics were based on the advantages of the females engaging in social produce and human reproducing. Recalling this original shape, male and female writers showed sexual differences.
