Self- alienation is the central theme in Kate Grenville＇s collection of 13 stories Bearded Ladies of which Dreamhouse, based on the last one, is typical. As a keyword in psychoanalytic discourse, alienation and its symptoms bring to light the trouble in formation of subjectivity. This article, in psychoanalytical point of view, attempts to analyze how the heroine, Louise, in response to the sexual traumatic abuse of her husband, Reynold, enacts in the polymorphous perversity of her fantasies in the uncanny world. Assimilated into it, the heroine manages to resist the symbolic order of the patriarchal society and the Law of Father, winning access to the full suhjecthood. The inversion of knowledge and sexual development as a metaphor, paralleled to Lacanian mirror stage and Freudian anal/oral stage, reflects the author＇s dissatisfaction with women＇ s expected social and psycho-- sexual position, thus arousing the reflection of gender problems in negative esthetic point of view.
