Preserving Urban Landscapes as Public History:The Chinese Context

本文探讨的是中国语境下的城市保护。作者以三个中国历史文化街区为例,对历史街区的居民、政府及文物保护专业人士在原真性、集体记忆及其空间表现形式等方面的理解差异作了分析。本文提出采取一种具有文化敏感性的方式,将公众历史(视角/视野/解读/敏感性/结论)融入(政府部门的)城市保护工作。

This article explores urban preservation in the Chinese context.Using three historic dis-tricts across China, the author analyzes the gap between insiders’ and outsiders’ understanding of authenticity and of collective memory and its spatial representations.The article argues that what is needed is a culturally sensitive narrative approach which incorporates the public history perspective into urban preservation.
